How to: Turn Worksheets, Centers & Digital Activities into Mini Work Books

I've always loved to find ways to use materials/ resources in a variety of ways! I've recently started printing my Google Slides™, center materials and worksheets into mini work books! We use the work books during morning work/ independent work and during direct instruction. It's been a fun way to save paper, velcro and lamination sheets and to present the materials in a different way for students. It's super simple to do, so I'm sharing a little tutorial.

FREE Websites to use for Interactive Manipulatives

Websites for Online Manipulatives for Online Learning

We know that many of our students benefit from using hands-on manipulatives when completing tasks and learning new material... This makes teaching online and the thought of returning to schools with restrictions around items in our classroom/ shared supplies super tricky...

During online / distance learning, I started using interactive manipulatives online with my students! They might not be the traditional "hands-on" materials, but they really helped to support my students! Keep reading to see ideas for using online interactive materials and free websites!

How To: Add Audio to Google Slides™ for Online / Remote Learning

Adding Audio to Google Slides™ for Online / Remote Learning

Adding audio to Google Slides during online learning has been a GAME CHANGER for me! I can use it to "read" the directions to students, add prompts to activities or "read" them passages. It took me quite a bit of time and Google™ researching to figure out how to do it, so I wanted to create a simple tutorial so you can try it!

Please remember I'm not a technology guru. If you try this tutorial and run into any issues, please spend some time looking for answers on Google & YouTube because I likely won't be able to answer them since I'm so new to this too :-P

How To: Create Clickable PDFs for Online Learning

Creating Clickable PDFs for Online Learning

I'm going to be honest... I never thought I'd be sharing blog posts about how to use technology or creating online materials! I've always been savvy with creating materials for Teachers Pay Teachers, but in general, I never considered myself amazing with technology!

Over the last few weeks, I've learned A LOT that has made online teaching easier for me and made accessing the technology easier for students & their families.

Clickable PDFs are something that have saved me SO much time and they've made navigating technology simpler for my students.

Creating Online Interactive Materials for Students with Google Forms™

Using Google Forms to Create Online Material for Remote Learning

We are living in some wild times of trying to figure out online learning for our students! It's an adjustment for students, families and teachers to try to make this all work. This situation has required parents to become teachers and forced teachers to get even more creative with their teaching!

I don't consider myself a tech wizard or expert by any means... I've had to spend hours watching YouTube videos and searching online for how to make materials for online learning. Through this whole online learning journey, I've started using Google Forms as a way for students to answer comprehension questions and to collect data. So I'm here to share a simple tutorial for making Google Forms to use with students.

DIY Simple Assistive Technology for Special Education

DIY Assistive technology special education

I seriously love a good DIY classroom project, especially if it saves me money and meets the individual needs of my students. Assistive tech (or AT) is a very general term and can include a variety of equipment, software, etc. that improves the functional and academic abilities of students with disabilities.

Free Websites to Use with Switches in a Special Education Classroom

Free Websites to Use with Switches in a Special Education ClassroomWe live in a digital world... technology is all around us! Our kiddos with disabilities should have the same opportunity to learn to use technology as students who are "typically developing." As special education teachers, it can be difficult to find ways that our kiddos can access technology. I've always loved switch activated cause and effect toys and games, but switch toys are expensive and my kids get bored of them after a few weeks of playing with them. When it comes to technology, I often prefer using a computer over an iPad because the computer screen is larger and I have many kiddos with vision impairments. So I've been on the hunt lately for FREE websites that my students can use with switches for simple games and cause and effect activities.

Teaching Typing/ Keyboarding in a Special Education Classroom

Teaching Typing/ Keyboarding in a Special Education ClassroomA lot of the teachers at my school are teaching students typing/ keyboarding skills... I loved the idea of having my students type because it's such an important life skill and some of my students struggle with the fine motor skills involved with using a pen/pencil... but I had NO idea how I was going to teach my students with moderate to severe disabilities how to type when some of them don't know all of the letters yet. So, I did a good ole internet search and ended up finding some color-coded keyboards like this one. The color-coded keyboards already out there are okay, but they definitely aren't going to give my students the visual prompts they really need to type... so I decided to just make my own adapted keyboard.

Using Assistive Technology in Special Education

Assistive technology (AT) is super important in special ed classrooms because it gives students the ability to communicate and access the curriculum. Although AT is important for academics, I love to use AT in fun interactive ways to encourage students to communicate and work with each other.

Making an Interactive White Board in the Classroom

Making an Interactive White Board in the ClassroomEveryone in education knows that technology is an amazing way to get students engaged in class  activities. Although many classrooms already have SmartBoards or some other interactive white board, there are still so many teachers who don't have the luxury of having fancy technology in their classrooms. The good news is that there is a very cheap alternative if you already have an iPad, computer and a basic projector. It's an app called Splashtop and it's AMAZING.
